Genre: rock
Audience: Young adults/teens
- This is Kerrang music magazine, which is a very bold masthead("Kerrang") in the colour white which makes the masthead stand out.
- The masthead has also got a "smashed" look to it which makes it look like it has got cracks etc in the writing, this is associated with kerrang in every magazine and also gives a "rock" look to it; kerrangs genre- this look is almost like a trademark. also this makes kerrang easily recognised.
- Greenday is a rock band, and got famous through their hit single "American idiot"
- They have used a picture of the lead singer for Greenday as there front cover picture- they have used this picture of him with a guitar because he was on tour at the time the magazine was published, and it is the featured image as it will be the photo inside for their interview!
- The magazine is for young adults/teenagers, you can tell this from the way they shorten words e.g. "WTF?!" they use abbreviations this because it appeals to younger people as they understand theses words.
- Also Kerrang have included a lot of evoking interests- like "WIN...a CD by greenday" "PLUS... lost "NEW... album by greenday", which will promote the magazine because people enjoy free bees.

Top of the pops:
Top of the pops:
Genre: Pop
Audience: teenagers, younger children (10-13) , mainly female!
- Bold colours have been used to help indicate that its for the younger market
- The main image has been placed in the offset to the right with cover lines all around to, this is the
typical top of the pops magazine cover.
- short abbreviates have been used so its simple to read and teens understand this language.
- the font is like bubble writing, and is fun/ pop arty which would relate to children as they like fun childish things
- The colour pink is used alot because it appeals to the target audience; pink is used because its a bright calm colour that stands out and catches females eyes.
NME:
Genre: Indie, rock, alternative, indie
Audience: young adults, teenagers
- The feature image is on the right hand side of the magazine to make room for the cover lines along the left hand side
- the masthead isn't obvious to see and its surrounded by features and photos which helps show its target
audience the magazine wants to be eye catching.
- the masthead is the colour red on a black background which does stand out (WHEN SEEN) but overall
its the size and position that lets it down.- NME can afford to do this with their masthead because they are very well known and are very popular.
- Free bees has also been used like "free posters" to make people want to buy the magazine!
- The cast of Skins have been used to promote the magazine this week and "skins" is written across the picture and its written very big and in the colour yellow which makes it stand out a lot.
- skins is used as its a brand new series, and up todate shows/music shows NME target audience is teenagers
- All the writing on the front cover is short and snappy which relates to there target audience, also
all the font is written in upper case exaggerating the text.
I would be competing with a magazine similar to NME as the music genres they have based there magazines on are the genres i would like the base my magazine on- there genre is rock, indie, and alternitive which is a wide variety of genres which can cover many different asspects and ideas. the magazine contains the same elements that id want to include such as big bold text all in upper case, bold bright colours used, snappy coverlines that stand out, and freebees that will attract my audience.
